Egesame Receives Highest Honor; Inducted into ITST Hall of Fame

In 2005 and 2006, there were few players who could survive a match with Egesame. On the Xbox TS1 Sim tour the Frenchman was a beast, winning 10 titles, including one Grand Slam championship and three Masters Series shields.

Tennis has enjoyed it’s share of great rivalries: McEnroe/Connors, Sampras/Agassi and Laver/Rosewall, to name a few. On the virtual courts, there were few, if any rivalries better than Egesame/Belin. The French duo ruled the Sim tour in the very competitive early days of the ITST. The draws were loaded and the competition was very stiff, yet Fred Belin and Egesame were virtually assured a spot in every Sim final.

Had it not been for Fred Belin (inducted into the Hall of Fame in February) Egesame's title count and match record would have been through the roof. Egesame complied a career mark of 127-30 (a winning percentage of 80.9). Of the 30 losses, 15 were suffered at the hands of Fred Belin. Egesame did win 6 of their 21 matches.

On occasion, Egesame did escape Fred Belin's long shadow. In January of 2005, the then unknown Frenchman won the Australian Open, defeating American J. Bentley in the title match, 6-7, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 (Belin faltered in the quarterfinals, losing to Xohrum, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5).

After his Australian Open triumph, Egesame captured his first of three Masters Series shields, bettering Canadian Jahrim in the final of the Pacific Life Open, 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.

In an ironic and somewhat fitting end to his career, Egesame defeated Fred Belin in his final on-court appearance. In the championship match of the 2006 NASDAQ-100 Open, Egesame took down his respected compatriot and career nemesis, dispatching Fred Belin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
