Match Rules

Postby Elias » Fri, 06 Jul 2012 20:00

We started the tour in a small group so the rules were implicitely known, but as TE Tour is growing slowly i think a reminder is needed for all the newcomers :

  • Always use ITST private messaging system to arrange your matches, for the tournament host being able to check and allow walkovers when needed. You can still use any instant messaging or TE Webchat to meet your opponent later on but still use the pm system as a priority to come to a time agreement for your meeting.

  • Matches have to be played with the last TE build & last ITST mod version. Also means you need the Full TE game version, not the demo, wich is not moddable.

  • Better when creating a game in the public Lobby to use your nick as network name instead of the default character name you are using. Because as more people are starting to use the mod, we need to know who we are each other in the lobby, hosting or joining, this will avoid mistakes. More an advise than a rule though.

  • In real life you need a decent racket and a decent court to play a match in good conditions. In the same way, it's a player responsibility to bring a decent hardware and a decent internet connexion to play matches in decent conditions.
This is an important point to preserve a good gaming experience and keep matches competitive in the right way among the tour. Very poor hardware or connexion leading to extreme lag may lead a player to be suspended until the issue is fixed.

  • Online match setup has to be as follows :
    • Autopos feature has to be set up on slow in the character sheet
(or your character #CRC won't match)
    • Controls : Simulation controls (we may switch to Elite in the future)
    • Ball Preview : Off
    • Tiredness : On
    • Skills : Free mode (other modes would modify the char stats defined)
    • When hosting always define the right number of sets, don't recreate a game for each set played because this resets any stamina loss.

  • Use the chars as defined by ITST mod profile, stats wise, and animation wise. The only change allowed is the outfit wich you can change manually using the appropriate interface icons (don't use the copy paste outfit code option, because the outfit codes you may find also contains animation and gesture info), always use ingame menu options for this.

  • If you start a match, be able to end it ; if you only have a short available time, tell your opponent _before_ to start the match, and be sure he agrees to stop the match after a specified time, and to go on later.

  • Don't swap to another application all the time during the match (ie: don't chat with someone else, constantly check your Facebook after every point, etc...)

  • Sportiveness & fairplay when desync occurs. Very important behaviour wise.
That means, when serving a first serve out, and getting a desync, never use a first serve after, always serve a second serve, and if you put it out, give the point. In the same way If your opponent first serve was obviously an ace you wouldn't have returned, and a desync occurs, don't return the next serve, just give the point.
This is also applicable for clear winners or outs during a rallye interrupted by a desync.
Taking benefit of a desync is faulty behaviour wise. Act honest and fairplay about it.

  • Continuously disrespecting your opponent by either not showing up or being late for a scheduled match will result in a suspension from ITST.

  • Cheesing & wrong behaviour are prohibited
    • Serving from the extreme wide corner of the court.
    • Lobbing when both players are at the baseline
    • Lob returns are only allowed against second serves (any type of) AND if the opponent is doing serve & volley.
    • Spamming of Drop + Net Rush combination is not allowed. This does not mean that Drop + Net Rush combination is forbidden, but only should be used rarely.
    • Lob + Net rushing tactics
    • Drop spamming (to be defined though..) / drop shots returns.
    • Spamming of short slices or banana shots is not allowed.
    • No drop shot when the opponent is at the net and you are not -- only exception is when the opponent does a Drop + Net Rushing combination.
    • Continually use provocating gestures eg. victory ones especially
      after the opponent misses.
    • Running towards the net at the end of each point like a fool (yes i know this sounds weird but i've seen this many times playing TE online and it's utterly annoying believe me :p )
    • Offending / unnapropriate words in the chat. Also don't use the chat if not necessary during a match, respect your opponent concentration. The chat can only be used if you need to ask for short break or to propose a re-host if the playing conditions are bad, not for complaning, venting or any other meaningless purposes.
    • Do not spam predefined chat quotes during a match.
    • Do not pause the game repeatedly entering the menu or swappping to another application.

By default every match should take place using the corresponding tournament court included in ITST mod. Though if you don't like the court camera in 2D mode, you may use another court matching the same surface, - if both players agree to do so -

Following is a quick reference of tournaments and surfaces used in the current version.

To summarize, you can play a Marseille match on Rotterdam court as they use the same surface physics, if both players agree to do so.

Hi Elias.

I´m having problem with the Newport 2D court. Do you know how can I fix it? In sam´s patch, we have to locate the custom court in the folder and eliminate the court_used.jpg arquive, but I couldn´t find it in the ITST profile.

Any suggestion? Thanks.

Hmm it will not be possible to edit it in ITST patch because the courts are not external but packed in the pak03.pak file. What type of issue do you have with it ?

Still i may send you the files then you may create an external folder for it, though it may not work online because thefiles included in the .pak files always have priority when playing online.

In the meantime you should play newport matches in another court then.

In all my grass courts, the JPG images are not aligned with the courts. I think this is happening with all mods with grass courts. But there´s no problem, I´ll play with the 3D one.

Thanks mate.

Yes i think i've read some posts @ MG forum from some people having this issue previously, strange bug i wonder why some systems have this issue.

If the fix is only to delete the court_used.jpg file, i may create a specific pak03.pak file without those files for you to test then.

In new sam´s patch, doing that worked for me. I noticed that all courts that have this "court_used" file had the problem. As I´m not an expert, I don´t have any idea why this is happening...

I think we have to write what we mean with cheese behaviour. In addiction to serving from wide corner, we could add dropshot spamming, casual lob and lob+net rushing tactics. I don't know if fh offensive slicing can be considered a cheese tactic, because it can also be a good approach shot or a way to change rithm, as it isn't unfair like ts4 powerful slicing.

Added this one. Although it probably sounds obvious to the most, i've heard of some people not giving much respect toward this, so i think it's worth to be remembered as a behaviour rule.

I have question about playing lobs. Is defencive lob, when both players stays on the baseline, allowed? Of course I'm not talking about "lob + net" tactic, but only about playing lob in the middle of the rally, when for example one player runs from right to the left and tries to defend and hit a ball let's say in the easiest way for the opponent?
